Professors like Dr. Charles Atwater provided stimulating, and challenging courses - adding to the positive experience and good education I received at S.C. Prof. Simpson was an excellent lecturer. His tests were horrendous but you really studied and learned!

Sterling is where I became a Christian. It wasn't so much what people said that made the difference for me...it was how they "walked their talk." Professors such as Bob Thompson, Fran Calderwood, Bob Gordon, Prof. Taylor, Dr. Atwater and Carol Jean Brownlee were often times "Jesus with skin on" for me---they had no idea that I was "watching"--I'm so grateful for their living testimonies.

-Sally Mullis '61
I want to honor Charlene Myers, my wife and joy of my life and help mate for 50 years - an elementary professor (in education).

Robert Thompson - An alumnus of Sterling College, Bob taught the math courses with clarity, patience and a ready smile. Always one to offer his assistance, he was asked to drive the college bus on many occasions. One never-to-be-forgotten occasion occurred when they encountered a totally blocked road on a high mountain pass. Bob hitched the bus back and forth on that mountian road until he got it headed back in the opposite direction.

Clair Gleason - We remember Clair as a devout Christian, a devoted family man, and one dedicated to hard work. In the beginning he was athletic director and coach of all sports, working tirelessly to enhance athletics at Sterling College and to bring out the best in his athletes. His great sense of humor made him a joy to be around.

H.A. Kelsey - When we came to Sterling College in 1935, the office staff was composed of President Kelsey, bookkeeper and stenographer, Mabel Snyder and registrar, Estelle Dougherty. Dr. Kelsey raised money, recruited the students, hired the faculty, made all the financial decisions and conducted the required chapel four times a week. His fatherly explanations of God's Word, clarified for us God's intent for our lives.

My memorial gift goes toward honoring a servant of God, Julia Simpson. In all kinds of weather and devoted to keeping the administration building and walkways clean, she blessedall she came in contact with. Our lives are richer, and she is now blessing her Lord in face to face praise.

I enjoyed my English teacher Mrs. Dorothy Benehe. She was great at helping mt to be all I could be in expressing myself, and writing compositions. She was also geneunienly concerned about me as a person, easy to talk to and a good listener.
-Bill Walker '81
Dr. Kelsey took a Sunday evening off to come to Alden, Kansas and conduct my marriage to Ralph J. Lipper in 1945. I think it was somewhat against his wishes to conduct a marriage on the Sabbath - War time influenced his decision. We were so ever grateful.

Sterling College played a big part in the life of my family.

I am giving to Sterling because of the caring teachers and staff while I was attending Sterling College. Those who greatly touched my life by their examples and love were Prof. Akin who broadened my musical appreciation & gift of music by his example in choir and voice lessons. Also a special light in my life was Prof. Thompson as he drove the bus on choir tour, his patience and example were so meaningful.
-Corrine Arnold '63
Dr. Wm. F. Pinkerton was a major influence in my attending Sterling College. We would like our gifts to go to the scholarship in his remembrance.
-Samuel Marshall '50
I give to Sterling in honor of my mother and father who were both students there. Their chance meeting resulted in two sons, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. My wife and I have never been to Sterling, but are planning a visit in the near future. My father died in 1949, while my mother lived until 2000.

There were several faculty and staff members who had a huge impact on my life while at Sterling. Many of them are still there. It always meant so much to me that our profs could have been teaching ANYWHERE (many of them Harvard and Yale graduates) but they chose to be at Sterling. Without scholarships I wouldn't have been able to take part in the life-changing Sterling experience. I give to Sterling in hopes others will have the same opportunity I had.

I give my gift in memory of Dr. O.R. Clark (Biology) and Dr. Ruth. Thompson (Chemistry) who prepared me well for my calling as a missionary medical technologist. Their kindness and character inspired me to be their kind of person to my students and employees.

I especially was blessed by majoring under Fern Oline - in Home Economics. It has been a very practical major and Miss Oline was a strong Christian influence on her students.

A caring high school teacher sent me to Sterling. Always grateful he cared so much.

I appreciate the years I spent at Sterling and the help I received from someone because I had a financial need.
-Judith M. Blevins fs61
I am making this gift because of Miss Fern Oilve who taught us girls a Home Economics class in the year of '57 - '58. To this very day I still use some of the hints she shared with us to make our homes and mealtimes attractive. She always said "have a pretty centerpiece on the table regardless of what you were serving that meal. That in doing so it would naturally improve the appearance of the food and make your family enjoy mealtime together." I always have a pretty centerpiece on my table for every meal thanks to her.
-Beverly J. Smith fs61
Sterling College helped me through a rough time and opened my eyes to the Lord - Thank you.

Who among SC former grads could possibly resist the fond memories evoked by the pictures of your beloved professors Taylor, Thompson (both), Lawless, Aiken & Strickland? What a great idea for a fundraiser! Sorry my contribution can't be more. With warm & fond memories of SC,
-Mary Rose Williams '58
Prof. Leo Lawless lives in my life today. I studied the piano during all my years at SC. Today at the age of 88 years, I am greatfull that I can play for one chapel a week and 1/2 hour one evening a week in the lobby at the dinner house. Prof. Lawless was a friend as well as a professor, and I know he lives today in the lives of many of his students.
-Marcella Stitt '37
Carol Gene Brownlee is my sister and I love her very much. She has had many things to overcome in her life, and I have great admiration for her ability to continue to live joyfully. Her deep faith in God is an inspiration to me.

To keep the Christian ministry of Sterling College. -Phyllis Wagoner '54
I think we need a Presbyterian college in Kansas. I graduated from the College of Emporia in '52 when it was still a great place to be. So now it's up to Sterling to give the same great education & social life - Christian Style.

We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
