Is there anything I should do to prepare for college?

College is one of the major transitions in life, not to mention one of the most memorable. As with any big event in your life, you want to start with a lot of prayer. God can do a lot to prepare you for college. All you have to do is ask Him. Beyond that, here are a few pointers to consider.

1. Come prepared to work. There are a lot of study groups and faculty who are ready to help at Sterling, but ultimately, you are the one who has to make your education happen. Start by taking good notes in class, then be a good organizer of your time. Make sure you don't put off to tomorrow what needs to be done today. Or tomorrow is going to be twice as busy. The key is to have responsibility.

2. Get involved in campus life. You may be a stranger in a different world at first. So at first you may feel a little awkward and even a little homesick. That's one of the great things about Sterling. It's very easy to get to know people and get involved in campus activities here. Be open to new experiences and to making new friends. If you are, you'll feel at home at Sterling in no time.

3. Don't get too involved. It's pretty easy to get overcommitted to activities if you're not careful. And getting enough sleep isn't just good advice at college. It's the difference between paying attention the next day in class and blowing an important test. And obviously if you're spending most of your time going to games or other activities, you can't be studying enough.

4. Practice the practical side of life. If you've never managed your own money, you'll need to at College. You might want to pitch in on laundry day to get the hang of that task and try your hand at cooking some meals (although most of the meals you'll have at Sterling will come from the Cafeteria.)
