Department of Communication & Theatre Arts

Effective communication, creative performance, and responsible leadership are vital needs of contemporary life. The Communication and Theatre Arts program at Sterling College prepares you to meet these needs by providing you with growth oriented opportunities and challenges that include:
- a lively season of six productions ranging from full-scale Broadway musicals to Shakespeare, and from classical plays to current releases
- a biennial theatre field trip to Broadway in New York City
- a nationally recognized intercollegiate forensics team engaged in competitive debate as well as individual interpretive and speaking events
- a new media production studio for creating audio, video, and multimedia programs for broadcasting and other media organizations
- scenic, lighting, sound, and costume facilities serving as laboratories for theatre production
- theatre and communication leadership and service to various communities
- a network of organizations providing internship and field experiences in broadcasting, film, and theatre
- a carefully focused academic major with emphasis in either Communication Arts or Theatre Arts offering preparation for graduate school or the professions
- a licensure program for teaching speech, debate, forensicsĀ and drama
Through such experiences you will grow as a leader by enlarging your team-building and organizational skills, your knowledge, your creativity, and your sense of responsibility. Through such experiences you will learn to integrate faith with learning while developing a perspective on the history, philosophy and methodology of the disciplines.
