The goal for the Art & Design Department is to prepare students to compete in the arena of ideas by providing the best CHRIST- centered liberal arts department in the nation. We believe the Sterling Art & Design Department has the talent and facility at this time that will provide the foundation to make this goal possible. Sterling College has maintained its competitive edge by remaining faithful to its Christian heritage in the visual arts.

Our classes in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and foundation design offer the core classes needed for students entering our graphic design, animation and upper level fine art courses. With a new darkroom addition to the Art & Design Department, we offer courses in traditional photography as well.

Our faculty in the Art & Design Department is here to serve the needs of the students and prepare them spiritually, skillfully, and professionally in the visual arts to make a positive difference in their careers and the world in which they live. This type of instruction from the Art & Design faculty prepares students to meet the challenges by presenting real world situations so that the student is able to take the design concepts and creative skills they have learned from the classroom to graduate school or dynamic job opportunities.
